16 February 2011

With the financial constraints and the burdening of DPS resources, Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela has issued a Directive to cease non-essential and non-emergency services that are currently performed by DPS free of charge.

The following services ceased are:
- Shoreline security protection
- Towing of privately owned boats
- Search and rescue operations performed after the first seventy-two(72) hours
- Each response to a private security alarm, whether said alarm call is active or not
- Marine events
- Special events
- Non-emergency locked vehicles
- Police escorts
As for funeral escorts, DPS will provide one marked vehicle or motorcycle to lead a funeral escort. No other personnel shall be used for traffic light intersections or any other intersections. The motorcade shall follow all traffic laws including traffic lights and intersection control.
The need to hold or divert traffic is not necessary as the motorcade is non-emergency and is not required to travel in speeds above the posted speed limit. Any future requests for officers or vehicles for this type of services shall be charged the necessary service fee.
